Another New Way to Tax: Rhode Island wants to tax mileage

Not only do they want to raise the state tax on gasoline, add additional taxes on fuel, raise tolls and raise registration fees, they also want to charge a half a cent per mile driven. For those that cannot do math, that's $50 for every 10,000 miles driven. Many states including my own have floated the idea, and it's just one more example of the government fleecing people out of their earned capital because they cannot operate within their means. That would be like me going into my boss and putting a gun to her heard and demanding a raise and getting it because I have too much debt. If individuals have to live within their means, why isn't the government required to operate within their means? Americans have become so feckless that they accept this indentured servitude. Our forefathers went to war with England for independence for far less than we put up with. We've become a rather bootless and inept people, haven't we?

Taxing Farts? What's next, breathing?

When it comes to farming, I am more like Billy Crystal in City Slickers, but the latest attempt at eco-terror-socialism has me running for pitchfork. Taxing the carbon emissions is the governments latest idea to steal money from people and jump on the vegan bandwagon with an agenda to discourage raising animals to eat. This country needs to kick these soy swilling habitrail impressarios in the ass. What's next, taxing us on oxygen consumption (just wait a few years...)? If they can't persuade people of a bad idea, they'll find a way to shove it down our throats whilst taking our capital to boot. Eat beef and pork, it's what's for dinner.

Is Taxing People Legitimate Theft, Necessary Evil, or Patriotic Duty?

The Honorable Barney Frank believes that shortfalls in government coffers require taking money from people in the manner of taxation. Of course he couches this in that he suggests taxing the rich, as they have the money, but what if the government is at great deficit and he suggests lowering the bar? My question is, it would seem that politicians see taxation as a legal way to part money from people to fund programs that they use as pork to get elected. In a sense, we are paying for a system that keeps them employed. I would ask any reader that is willing to respond, what is the difference between this, the Mafia or a common thief? It could be construed that there is very little difference between government and the Mafia except that one has "legitimate authority". Or is it that a government fullfills some higher moral purpose and it is justified to take money which is not earned? If the latter is the case, then how can feeding and perpetuating a system designed to keep politicians employed be a higher moral calling?
