Most jobs they do...young Americans don't want in the first place because it requires "WORK."

I’ve been following and enjoying your blog for a while now and would like to invite you to visit and perhaps follow me back. Sorry I took so long for the invitation.

At the crummy wages that big business wants to offer, you mean.

What part of "the law of supply and demand" don't you understand?

Bringing in low-wage illiterates from the Third World is a great way to keep paychecks small. At the same time, the costs of immigrant health care are put on the backs of those few Americans still making a decent living.

Long time no see Kenneth. I'll post a response here I posted at LR.

My point of view is that we need not only comprehensive immigration reform, but changes in our foreign and economic policies. The reasons people come here from Mexico and other latin american countries is that there is opportunities here that don't exist where they are. While penalizing employers for hiring illegals will have some effect, it's not going to stop illegal immigration. From what I can see, the vast majority of native born americans do not want the jobs most of these people are doing. If this was not the case, we'd see african americans flocking to these jobs. Such is not the case.

The only thing that does irk me is that employers do use illegal means to manipulate the market. The reason for this is that people are unwilling to pay higher prices for goods and services in an economy that did not have cheap labor. This is true of Mexicans and other latin americans coming here or Walmart selling cheap chinese shit. So the question is, are you willing to pay a lot more for goods and services if it would be possible to not only stop illegal immigration, but tariff chinese and other cheap imports in an effort to foment a buy and employ american agenda? It's not so simple.

Part of the problem is that in Mexico and other latin american countries, they are run by oligarchies that do not share the opportunities and keep the advantage to the select few. Basically, they are run by legitimized mafias. On top of this, we have terrible problems with drug cartels killing tens of thousands of people a year in Mexico. It's that bad. Can you blame these people for wanting something better?

With such comprehensive problems, such simplistic solutions won't work. You have to treat the whole patient, not just one or two symptoms.
