Is Christianity a mental disorder?

A second grader was sent home for psychiatric evaluation because he drew Jesus on a crucifix. According to his father:

Chester Johnson told WBZ-TV that his son made the drawing on Dec. 2 after his second-grade teacher asked children to sketch something that reminded them of the holiday.
said the teacher became upset when his son said he drew himself on the cross. Johnson, who is black, told WBZ he suspects racism is involved. He said he thinks the school overreacted and wants an apology...The boy was cleared to return to school on Dec. 7 after the evaluation found nothing to indicate that he posed a threat to himself or others. But his father said the boy was traumatized by the incident and the school district has approved the family's request to have the child transferred to another school.

"They owe my family an apology and the kid an apology and they need to work with my son (to) the best of their ability to get him back to where he was before all this happened," Johnson told New England Cable News.

An 8 year old draws Jesus on the cross, and he's nuts, but if a muslim kid said allah akbar after his kin flew planes into buildings that is ok. An atheist could pee on a cross, and that is ok, as it is self expression.  The socialists we have in education are over the top. When will we get common sense and a sense of decency in education? These fools need to take a step back or get a good kick in the ass. Where is Ron Kuby when you need him? Mr. Johnson, you deserve more than an apology.

Thank you for reading this blog.

I'm here! But there is a significant disparity between your account of the story and the news account, viz., in the news account, the boy said that he drew himself on the cross. An eight year old with crucification fantasies might warrant a little trip to the school nurse to check on the upstairs furniture. Agreed, though, if it was his depiction of Christ, then it is both seasonally appropriate and constitutionally protected. Thanks for thinking of me... Ron Kuby

Not only did I think of you, I miss you with Curtis in the morning. Imus sucks, you don't and the only thing worse is there isn't anything worth listening to on the radio in the morning in Iowa.

If he drew himself on the cross, which I didn't catch in the news article, then that is a little odd, then again, don't some people in the Philippines crucify themselves on good friday? Yeah, that is odd too.

Thanks for responding and I hope to hear you on the radio soon.

Ron Kuby... Pistol packin' lib!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but... I thought I heard the boy's father on Quinn & Rose this morning. Nothing about a self portrait. Dunno. If the original report is correct, Kuby is right.

I sure hope it's just a misunderstanding. Faith in this land is under attack while it is also undergoing a renaissance of sorts.

Self portrait or not, the school was out of line. In my day, the teacher would have called the parents and discussed it. Today, it seems like all that schools know how to do now is overreact.

I am surprised I wasn't locked away years ago. Of course many others around me feel the same.

I would have been put in solitary. Of course I would have liked that.
