Meetings, Fairytales, Cheerleading and a Total Waste of Time

Have you ever gone to a meeting at work where it was an exercise in self-congratulatory mutual masturbation? Have you ever been to a family gathering where it's an incestuous version of speed dating where people talk about themselves in an effort to convince themselves they have a life? Or have you been in any kind of encounter where only positive thoughts are allowed? No negative waves, because it's more comfortable with our heads in the sand or is it up our asses?

All of this is really group narcissism. It's a tribe trying to reinforce not only why it should exist but why it's better than any other tribe. Think of it as an exercise in group-think conditioning.

You might belong to a family as above where when people gather, the exercise is to talk about oneself and how successful he or she is. Lots of families are like this. Generally though, there's an elephant in the room. May be uncle Ernie is a molester, may be half or more of the family are afflicted with alcoholism, or may be dad likes to smack people around. Doesn't matter. There's a narrative to paste over the dog shit like the vinyl façade of that cheap woodgrain plastic film on a 1972 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate Wagon. The fairytale in this particular case is that we're all successful, therefore we're all alright.

This doesn't end at home though. With the same pooper scooper, we bring the same piece of dog shit from home into work or other organizations like church, synagogue or some other social endeavors like sports (lets not forget political parties too. Let's not leave them out of this fun.). So goes the perpetuation of the fairytale. Lots of fairytales. No one wants to be on the losing team. Come on in for the big win. Got your pom-poms?

This time the elephant isn't in the living room, but in all sorts of places. While uncle Ernie's penchant for little people isn't the problem, other things things can be like nepotism, cronyism, harassment, perfidy, parsimony, back stabbing, and all sorts of cultural penury. Some people like to call this politics. What's the narrative? What's the fairytale? What's the self-talk that no matter what the bullshit, the outside world is faced with a smile of confidence that we are all ok? It takes really strong leadership to keep the dog shit float moving. What most successful leaders have is a good case of narcissism. Even Jesus was a narcissist. Wouldn't you call someone a narcissist if they said they were the son of god? What do Jesus, Obama, Steve Jobs and Reagan have in common (and a bunch of others, go to the link below.)? All have the same basic Myers Briggs personality type, ENFJ. Basically, the charismatic bullshit artist. I am getting away from my narrative here a bit, but you need someone really good with a shovel to keep the dog shit merry go round turning. They turn that white and purple polka dot elephant into a loving little Chihuahua. They may make it disappear altogether.

Of course all of their hard work will go down the tubes if it weren't for the cheerleaders. Another term for them are groupies. Gotta love Steve Deace for that one. The cheerleaders make the fairytales, the narratives possible. Without their hard work and supplicance, none of it would be possible. Remember, every tribe has a leader, and every leader has their henchmen. Just the way it is.

Groupies of course are much more dangerous than any narcissistic leader. These are the same assholes that make everything that is bad happen. Behind every despot is a peon looking for affirmation, approbation and validation. Beware of these creeps, they will ruin your day if not your life.

So where's the poop? There's plenty of poop to go around, as anyone who has lived long enough on this planet can attest, and it's usually handed out in disproportionate servings. Your serving size is inversely proportional to your status. Not only that, but the job of those above you, particularly those in leadership (remember the narcissists), is to ensure that. In fact, repeatability and reliability of business processes are paramount in any successful business and this extends to other enterprises as well, even back to our fictitious family. Reinforcement of the narrative, the fairytale is how the family will ensure if not reflect success. If not that, then at least be in a comfortable state of denial.

Basically, the poop is everywhere you look. We are human and therefore are capable of great scatological enterprises. It almost goes without saying. The biggest mistake is to bring attention to the narrative, the fairytales, the consequences of the tribe. God forbid you not only find the poop, but point it out. The tribe does not suffer well those who fall outside the ring of believers. This is because not only must the stink of the poop not be found, it must be worshipped as well. That's right, worship the poop. Those that create the poop must be continually comfortable in their scatological enterprise. If you do point out the poop, you will be burned at the stake.

So where does this leave us in this particular narrative? Beware of poop, narcissists, groupies, and tribes? Unfortunately, we will always have to beware of these. It's human nature to want to be right, to want to be on the winning team, to want to enforce will. That's not going away anytime soon. What does this mean? One, there's a place where the poop is tolerable for each of us. There's a pile of poop meant just for you. Really. And it won't be so bad. Two, choose your fights well. Getting burned at the stake over something that one,  isn't going to change and two, something that if it did, at what price, isn't worth it. Family, friends and country, in that order. That's what you fall on your sword for. Your family really is the only tribe that matters. Ultimately, work, your favorite sports team and not even a political party matter in the sense of application of tribal bullshit. Does the GOP go to work with me everyday and fix that pile of poop? Do any of the Yankees half to leave work early to pick up my kid from band practice? Will anyone outside of my own family really give a rats ass when I take the dirt nap? No and not really to any of it.

Most shit in life is a total waste of time and fairytales, meetings and cheerleaders are no exception. They serve to enforce the will of the tribe, sometimes through delusion, sometimes through perfidy, sometimes by accident. Most of the time by shear repetition. The object is to see through the dog shit and see it for what it is. It's dog shit. Let the world go its wanton way and do what you can when you should. Don't confuse your loyalties outside your family with family. And to the diversity and why don't we all hold hands and get along crowd, the smallest minority in the universe is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. Also, real change doesn't start with the tribe or the village, it always starts with one person who thinks differently. That's what Steve says, anyway.

The Right Guy Endorses Bob Vander Plaats

This should come as no surprise. My excoriation of Sarah Palin because of her obedient endorsement of Terry Branstad set the stage for this. Palin, who was once described as a maverick and a crusader, has shown herself to be a gangster. Some might say it is to get a seat at the table, but I would say she's been that way for at least 1 years 9 months. She's gotten a taste, and fell in line.

This isn't about Palin though, it's about who is the best choice for Iowa as governor among the available candidates. He's does very well among social conservatives, and while I am not one in the sense that I am using the term, I find that for the most part, Vander Plaats fits the bill. He'd like to make government smaller, he wants to lower taxes, and he wants the branches of government to do their respective duties. By this I mean that the judicial branch does not pass law. Last year, the Iowa Supreme Court struck down a defence of marriage act in Iowa and Chet Culver, our current governor allowed the decision to act as law, not a decision that sends the issue back to the legislature where laws are made. Let me be clear here: I am not making an argument for or against gay marriage, but rather that the process that is happened was severely flawed. These judges are not elected officials and there is no recourse for any decision they make  that is interpreted as law. It's by fiat. This is egregious no matter what side of the issues you are on. The issue needs to be settled by the people, IE the legislature, one way or another.  This didn't happen.

The reason this didn't happen is because Terry Branstad appointed left wing progressive, and I do not use the term liberal, judges to the Iowa Supreme court. He is largely responsible for this. I will also add that Branstad is a narcissist. The guy is making multiples of what he would make as governor, he's already served 4 terms as a tax and spend RINO governor, and somehow he believes he is the only one the can save Iowa from itself. How nice of him to show up, the self-important self-loving narcissist. At this point, he should give someone else a shot, and both Roberts and Vander Plaats can beat Culver in the general election. Chet is that damaged. It's pure ego on Branstad's part and I am here to tell you that if  Terry wins, I will not vot for him. I will write in/vote for Jonathan Narcisse or Bob Vander Plaats, but I will not vote for Terry Branstad in the general election. His Hubris has pissed me off that much and idiots like Charlie Gruschow, who think we should all fall in line like dutiful farm animals, needs to go to hell. I won't, and he, Branstad and the rest of the mushy RINOs in this state can go to hell as well. There, I feel much better now.

So tomorrow, I will cast my vote for Bob, and you should too.

They are doing it again: I told you so

As most of my fellow right-libertarian-conservative bloggers have been railing against Diabolus Ex Machina (Even Chavez smells sulphur), The Grand Dragon Of Magic, Misdirection and Malefaction has been hard at work making sure that his agenda is successful. Has it been fruitful? Today we see that they passed a defense bill (and look who gets to spend it), with the capitulation of Leiberman and Nelson, now Reid has the votes for the "Healthcare" bill,  Obama sold our soul in Copenhagen (as he races home to a blizzard), because we only have 50 days to save the world, and the best that the right can do is have a readathon of the healthcare bill to slow it down. On top of this, Iran invades Iraq, while we are there mind you, and we do nothing. Talk about taking it in the back door. What side is this guy on?

In spite of what my cohorts say about "we'll have a great 2010 and 2012", I wish we would come to our senses and admit it, that we lost. We lost in 2008, and we've lost the idealogical battle on capitol hill. While we may win next year and in 2012, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A PRECEDENT OF OVERTURNING ANY GOVERNMENT LARGESSE.

 The only way we can get beyond this is to come to our senses, admit reality, learn from it, and not repeat the same bullshit that Steele wants to perpetrate on us in the coming months. The GOP is feckless, and is rotten at the core. It's needs a heart and brain transplant. and that needs to come from the Tea Party people and 912ers. The problem is the GOP is deadly afraid of the Tea Party people. I heard Craig Robinson of the Iowa Republican on the Steve Deace Show  say the he and the Iowa GOP wish the Tea Party people would go away and that they are too ideologically diverse to be republicans. What a pompous myopic ass. He likes his seat at the table, and the power that it gives those there. Unfortunately,  nothing will change if RINOs like these keep the power they have. The status quo hasn't worked, the republicans gave the dems everything in 2006 and 2008 because of their fecklessness and I see no change if they get back in control next year. They are tax and spend moderates that want to give their special interests tax breaks and other perks. It's time for an overhaul and just as the dems are doing things that will reek havoc on their gip on power, this does not mean there is a mandate for McLame republicans to do their moderate best. If you don't believe me, look what a short time it took for the GOP to throw the socons under the bus after they got what they wanted and morover, before they were the GOP, they were the Whigs.

At this point, the best of all possibilities is that the Tea Party people take over the platform, agenda and direction of the GOP. It's needed IF the GOP wants to remain the GOP. If not, the Tea Party people will supplant and replace the GOP, just as the GOP replaced the Whigs. We will see if the GOP leadership is as intransigent as I believe it is. Of course, what is a leader without a movement. While I have my reservations about Sarah, I can see her taking the reins with this. Of course the GOP will cry to the tune of 1912 with TR and the Bull Moose Party, but my narrative says it would be 1860 with the rising GOP ex Whigs. What do you think?

If a conservative doesn't like guns - they don't buy one.

A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host - he switches channels. 

Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer - he doesn’t go to church.  

A liberal wants all churches to be silenced. 

If a conservative decides he needs health care - he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.

A liberal demands that his neighbors pay for his.

It's not only Democrats that are giving Americans the middle finger. His Arrogance of Iowa is at it again. He says he will do what's right no matter what his constituency says. In other words, he knows better than we do. The Straw Man And The Magician

Sorry for the delay, but I've had the flu and then bronchitis.

I wanted to post this a while ago, and usually such stories are timely, but here goes. Lately we have ben bombarded with populist drivel in an effort to create straw men that keep us from dealing with the real issues and real culprits. Much has been made about the management at AIG getting bonuses, but what has been lost in the miasma is that Senator Dodd was the one that put in the bonus structure in TARP which allowed the AIG management to take bonuses. Wether or not you believe that they deserve it is irrelevant because they did something that was legal, and our congress and senate passed, and the president signed. While I think it is ill-advised for them to take the bonuses, they are legally entitled to them. Too add to the drama, some politicians want to haul the AIG head before congress, but wait, he was appointed by congress to run AIG...

Right now, Paul Shanklin was prescient with his rendition of "Barack the Magic Negro". I am not endorsing the song per se, but Barack is a magician. He has managed to distract with one hand while deceiving with the other. The demonization of wealth, success, and capitalism go beyond just a plain vanilla socialist agenda. It's about creating a constituency of voters that will keep Barack in power, by any means necessary. If you look at his election, he did not go the normal route that politicians take: Country Club republicans or Limousine Liberals. He took smaller donations from a much larger base. While the wealthy have contributed to political endeavors, their numbers are small and when it comes to actual votes, their voice is also small. When You look at the past, look at Napoleon, Lenin, and Hitler (lets throw in Castro as well), in this context. They used economic populism as a straw man to galvanize people to a common goal, that in the end was detrimental to their freedom, well being and safety. With the exception of Hitler, their policies in praxis actually set their countries back technologically, and financially on the outset and in some cases down the road as well.

Make no mistake, it is not a mistake in anything Obama does policywise and strategically. Tactically, he makes mistakes, but the press covers up for him. With the latest GM debacle, having Wagoner step down was an effort to one, show who was in charge, and two, to create a straw man to blame for the auto industries problems. The auto industries problems are come in a few flavors. One, they have taken on too much debt with the unions, particularly as with the benefits and pensions with retirees, and non-competitive wages. Toyota and Honda clean the big three's clock over this issues alone. They kept feeding the dragon instead of killing it. Two, there is too much government regulation which has had a negative impact on the vehicles they build. having to put more money into research to meet ever tightening emissions standards is a waste of time. You could argue the japanese car makers did it, and that is true, but they do not have to eat that all by themselves. Lastly, for a long time, they made cars no one wanted to buy and by the time they did, the perception was that they still couldn't make a car like that. Too Little too late.

Back to Barry. God is my judge, you will see Detroit, at least in the form of GM and Chrysler, be dictated to on what to build by the government (Right now, Go bless Ford). In that context, I think Obama wants the bailout to fail for GM et al and anything else (Can you say Chapter 11?). If the bailouts succeed initially, the government may not have the control that Obama envisions. Obama needs to create a dependent society for his agenda to succeed. That is the key. The society must look to government for solutions to all its problems. To this extent, Obama will even denigrate and subjugate the United States to the will of other countries. His success depends on destroying the idea of American Exceptionalism, of destroying our very truths, and our values in order to substitute his own. Marx called for the destruction of the whole social order and a call to destroy traditions. This is in contrast to the president we had at the turn of the last two centuries: Thomas Jefferson did not bow before royalty, but insisted on a hand shake, as did Theodore Roosevelt, whose presidency established the United States as a first class world power. This president sees us less that we are in the context of the world at large.

Obama is the first president since FDR to want power at any price. Whereas I am not convinced that FDR was a socialist, at least initially, he came to crave and keep the power even if it meant keeping the country down in the face of rational alternatives. Obama is much more ideologically centered than FDR. Obama wants the power all right, but he also has a dream that most of us would not want, but like FDR will create, foment and promulgate conditions for the attainment of both. Obama is both gangster and crusader, whereas FDR was pure gangster.

What comes next, you ask? Expect more diversionary tactics from the Obamessiah Time is of the essence and I bet he will not wait for the midterm elections to enact things such as nationalized healthcare, forced volunteer service, carbon credit climate plan, nationalized banks, wage control, nationalized auto manufacturers, and the The Free Choice Act, to name only a few. More straw men will be created, and if necessary, his henchmen will be thrown under the bus (Imagine Geitner's prospects in a year) for the purpose of pushing his socialist agenda on the citizens of the United States, putting us in such debt that we will never be able to get out of it and in the process curtailing our freedoms. It will be indentured servitude for the ages, and unwanted obligations that will destroy innovation, ambition and expectations of generations of Americans to come. While the prospect of becoming a quasi-socialist country like Denmark, Sweden or the UK (at best) may be appealing to some of you, I think that you really have lost the perspective of what it means to be a US citizen and what the US stands for. This loss is due to the fact that what is not earned is not appreciated. Read Eric Hoffer if you want a translation, specifically True Believer.

What can we do? Remain vigilant, vote for candidates that are not simpatico with Obama, and Think Freedom. Don't be fooled by the straw men that politicians will use to sway you and beware of mass movements in general. Your most powerful asset is your vote and it is your only voice. Also beware of movements that offer symbolism rather than real change. Symbolism is but a vent of your frustrations, whereas real change (and not Obamas type of change) requires personal responsibility, and action. Without action we are just playing with ourselves in the corner. No offense to Glenn Beck and his "We Surround Them" non-sense, but that is just an outlet that has no bite and only serves to peacefully quell the masses. The same with these bullshit tea parties. The signers of the Declaration of Independence did so at their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. They had no intentions of symbolism, especially as it exists today. They were men of action. They were successful. Can you say the same, or is your Playstation and HD TV more important?

Michael Steele: Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss

According the Steve Deace and the Washington Post, "Michael S. Steele, the newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, arranged for his 2006 Senate campaign to pay a defunct company run by his sister for services that were never performed, his finance chairman from that campaign has told federal prosecutors."

First off, sinecure is just another political and government job category. Secondly, I told you so. We keep picking the same corrupt assholes in leadership positions. May be Steele gets his advice from Charles Rangel. To pararephrase Clint from his most recent flick, would it fucking kill you to elect someone clean, honorable and honest? I have to say I am sick of the leadership on the right. They keep doing the same things over and over and expect a different result. Not only that, they lie to their members and tell them they are doing things differently. The republicans have turned in to a party of hypocrites. They say one thing and do another. At least the democrats are unabashed in their socialism and corruption. As H.L. Mencken Said, it's time to raise the black flag and start slitting throats.

Iowa Has New GOP Chairman

Another clueless snake oil salesman that will cater to the different republican constituencies, telling each one how he is on their side, he will take their money and when candidates do get elected, they'll continue to NOT to do what the party stands for or what its constituents stand for. That is why they have been losing in Iowa and elsewhere. The republicans can't win if what they believe, what they say and what they do are different things and going high tech isn't going to solve that problem. It sounds to me like a continuing dilution of the message and morals in the party in order to grab more people for their $upport. Good luck. 

Samuel Adams said "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

The problem with modern politics is that to use Steve Deace's comparison, they are all gangsters and there's not a crusader among them. Steve, there are times I love your ass and as most of the time, you are right. They want the power (and money) and screw everyone else. I don't see things changing here for quite awhile, and the republicans will have nothing to do with that change. I've seen it happen in New York: The predominant party will become so entrenched and comfortable with their own power, that they will become so corrupted as to eventually be caught in broad daylight by their brazenness and laxity. Ask Tom Gulotta and company how it worked out. Look at Isaiah McGee's cheesy smile. He's one of my councilmen, and yes, a groupie.

Mid-West Pragmatism: The Response

First off, I will say that my sense of humor has escaped Mr. Gongol (Unless you know me or hear me, this is understandable). Being from NY and having such comic influences as Carlin, Pryor, Hackett, and Clay, I will say my sensibilities are probably a little different than most people west of the Hudson River. 

I will admit I only get about 15-20 minutes to listen to what is normally the Steve Deace Show. That afternoon, what I did hear was Mr. Gongol's equivocation on the subject of a carbon tax vs. an increased fuel tax. I would think unless you are left of center, a socialist or subscribe to Keynesian economics, I would think that most people, Mr. Gongol included, would eschew a carbon tax from the standpoint that man caused global warming is rubbish. From what I have heard from him in the past, I have discerned that he is indeed an educated man. I will put forth this to Mr. Gongol: You said someone has to pay for it. How about calling for fiscal responsibility and cut backs? I am not an economist, my background is American History and Information Technology, but it would seem to me that not only are we spending more that we take in, but we are borrowing more to pay off the debt. While raising taxes is one way to solve the problem, the problem I have is that taxes are a tithe and based on where the money goes, an unwanted one. Moreover, in order for me, or anyone else to pay taxes, we have to work. Work takes time and time is a commodity that is both limited and the amount we have we never know and we can never get back once it is gone. To that extent, I see compulsory taxes, no matter how well intentioned or done "for the greater good" to be a form of indentured servitude. We cannot spend our way of of debt, and it is egregious to burden ourselves and future generations with more debt and taxes. To me, the trade off is not worth it, but then again, I am probably an anachronism. Most people seem to be fine with being bribed with their own money, labor and therefore time. 

As far as who fights for liberty more than you? I don't listen to local radio all that much as I find it boring, with the exception of Steve Deace and J. Michael "Mac" McCoy. Steve would be more liberty oriented if Jesus didn't get in the way, and Mac can be just nuts. More than me. When I think of proponents of liberty, I think of Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and Samuel Adams. I also like Robert Nozick and Ayn Rand (if I were an economist, I'd probably think of Hayek, von Mises and Friedman). Who do you think of when you think of liberty? The Nobility of Victimization: Extortion and Tribute as a Way of Life

I should really try to blame Steve Deace for this post, but I won't. This bailout rings of the nobility of victimization. What I mean is that today, to be a victim bestows nobility. The banks were a victim, the recipients of the loans they never deserved are victims, and even politicians are victims. The banks are victims of the CRA, and so are those people that got in over their heads. Politicians are victims because they are forced to take a stand on this bill and actually do something...or not. To understand the audacity involved, Barack Hussein Obama postulates that the people that acquired those loans were somehow tricked into it. He said they were tricked into buying houses. I will say it... that is total F@#$ing bullshit, in my totally authentic NY accent. And somehow this makes all the players in this play noble. Noble as in having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals. Somehow we owe them, it's our fault, not theirs, we have to bail them out. This is furthest from the truth. When people screw up, particularly with their own finances, They are responsible for it. There's nothing of high moral ideals or fine personal qualities in it and there isn't any of those qualities in those that stick up tax payers to pay the bill for it. To add insult to injury, these bad players are threatening us, yes threatening us with financial harm if we do not pay their extortion, pay the tribute in order to avoid mayhem. Unfortunately for them, instead of grabbing my ankles as they would like, it makes me get my back up. Blame it on my Neapolitan heritage. I won't do it. Today's world is getting away from me and the more I know, the less I understand. It reminds me of the American Revolution when Lord Cornwallis lost at Yorktown and surrendered to Washington. The British military band played "The World Turned Upside down".

Bush + Democrats = NAU?

Some believe (Steve Deace) that this latest economic problem is being taken advantage of by the globalists Bush, Wall Street, Paulson  and the feckless congressional lackeys to devalue the dollar to the point that our only option is to go global. Welcome to the North American Union. What do you think? It's an interesting theory. The bottom line is we need a correction to cool things down and cull the heard of people whose wisdom is in question. Locus of Control: Socialism vs. Individualism Part I

Locus of control is a psychology term which refers to a person's belief about what causes the good or bad results in their life. An internal locus means that a person sees themselves as responsible for good or bad things that happen in their life because they control their own lives. Socialists focus on an external locus where people are not in control of their lives and the results, good or bad do not come from the individual, but that the control in there lives came from outside forces and in the case of socialism, from a collective. This comparison may seem facile to some, but it is direct, relevant and correlative. This external locus of control was prominent in past cultures and society when the church had much more influence in people's lives and most countries were monarchies. People had little or no say in the lives, were poorly if at all educated, and  where at the mercy of authoritarian whim. 

In the last 200 or so years, we have seen that democracy has replaced monarchies and people have become more independent, educated, and more importantly, informed. In the case of the United States, a rugged individualism replaced feudal and ecclesiastical supplication, peonage and darkness. We had the resources for man to expand his horizons and define his boundaries through sheer will, hard work, and risk. With this came the responsibility for success or failure. The locus of control turned inward. 

We now find ourselves at a point in time where there is transition again. Socialism promulgates the external locus of control, therefore responsibility, and affects to people's lives. Whenever you hear a socialist, or as I call them in today's instance, Neo-Coms, it is always someone or something outside the individual that is responsible for the bad things that may happen to them, and the good things as well. Everyone is a victim. For instance, the wealthy take a beating in socialist circles. They have been blamed for just about everything from the latest credit and financial crunch, to why people do not have healthcare, which is not the issue, but rather who will pay your healthcare bills. Conversely, when good things happen, it's the community that did it, as in it takes a village. 

The layer beneath this mechanism is that socialism and or better put, agents of socialism are dealing with an increasingly ignorant population, in spite of the overload of information, a society that has forgotten and is ignorant about themselves, how they got there, and what made and makes them great. Call it the death of American Exceptionalism. Steve Deace would say we lost our vision. We are both correct. Are socialism and it's agents responsible for this or are they just taking advantage of it? You could argue both. The point is that people are becoming less self-sufficient, self-reliant, have more information available, but cannot discern truth. The rugged individual is becoming extinct and socialism in all it's collective glory is on the rise.
